Unconscious Biases: Addressing Stealth Barriers to Innovation & Productivity

As the tech industry continues to be such a strong economic driver and influence on society, it is important to understand why a disparity of women and people of color in engineering and technology exists and how it impacts innovation, productivity and profits. This session takes a close look at the myth of meritocracy in tech, how to identify unconscious bias, and what steps can be taken to broaden the participation of underrepresented groups. Since a lack of diversity means fewer ideas, perspectives and pushback that come with a varied group of people on a team, it can have a damaging effect on new product development and innovation.
