Supporting user privacy, security and ease of use in eduroam

In this presentation we will shortly recall well known threats against eduroam users’ security, but will mainly focus on the presentation of two very useful tools which in our opinion deserve more publicity. They are RADIUS Tests – a part of eduroam CAT and EAPlab – one of the results of the SENSE project. Both of these tools focus on making EAP based security better and easier to use, but look at the target from opposite directions. Together they form a complete set of tests in a controlled environment allowing to assess both supplicants and server configurations. Our aim is to present how such tools can help site administrators in configuring their eduroam systems and building better support for eduroam users. These testing tools may become an important element of NREN support for their member organisations, where NREN operators may faster diagnose reported problems and suggest solutions.
