Maria Leonor Parreira

Professor Dr. Leonor Parreira is State Secretary for Science of the current Constitutional
Government. She was Investigator of Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência, Oeiras and Instituto de Medicina Molecular, Lisboa, Pro-Rector of Universidade de Lisboa as well as Full Professor of Histology and Developmental Biology, Faculdade de Medicina de Lisboa, Universidade de Lisboa.
Specialist in Clinical Hematology, Hospital de Santa Maria, Lisboa until 1988. She did research at the Research Fellow, Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hospital Hammersmith, London, at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência and at the Instituto de Medicina Molecular. Director of Instituto de Histologia e Biologia do Desenvolvimento and Unit of Hematopoietic Biology at the Faculdade de Medicina de Lisboa, and director of Gulbenkian Program for Advanced Medical Education (MDPhD Program). She was a member of the Pedagogical and Scientific Councils, Faculdade de Medicina de Lisboa. She was President of the Sociedade de Ciências Médicas and she is corresponding member of the Academia Portuguesa de Medicina. She was a member of Evaluation
Panel – PhD and Post-Doc fellowships, Ministério da Ciência e Tecnologia (Health Sciences) (Programmes PRAXIS XXI, POCTI) since 1996 and its co-coordinator between 2004 and 2010. She was a member of the Comissão Nacional para a Procriação Medicamente Assistida in 2007-2008.
She is the author of several scientific publications, in national and international journals.
